Hi there, this is Maha again. I am here now as a ray of sunshine for anybody who would like to have extra help in their academics at the University of Sheffield. As particularly, as an International student, you might be feeling skeptical about the study style in the UK and may feel in the need of some help. Guess what??? 301 is there for you!!!
301 Building, Sheffield (from Google Maps) |
The little building situated right behind the Student’s Union isn’t small in terms of providing services to University’s students. It is called as “Students Skills and Development Center”. Some of the ways listed below will give you an idea that how it can benefit you in your studies:
MASH: Maths and Statistics help (MASH) is a service provided by our talented staff at the University to sharpen the Maths and Stats skills of our students. You can drop in there with any of your Maths/Stats query from 10am to 4pm and receive guidance in the form of 1:1 tutorials.

Academic Skills Workshops: From you presentation skills to speed reading, whether you want help in critical thinking or group study…My Challenge!!!Think of a title and 301 offers workshop for it. Well trained PhD students deliver these workshops in a friendly manner and they are coupled with fun filled group activities. Another treat!!!! You can even get a certificate called as ACADEMIC SKILLS CERTIFICATE, if you attend any of their 4 workshops. The details can be found below:
Study Skills tutorials: My favorite part!! You can have 1:1 bookable tutorials with them about you Dissertation topic, academic writing and even software help e.g. Microsoft excel, SPSS Statistics, Matlab etc. I remember I had to learn a completely new programming language in a period of 2 weeks, so I went there with hope, and they could really help in learning that programming language and proved to be my course savers…
Anyway, I have just given you a teaser of the services offered by 301, and really hope that it would help you in your studies in a way your department cannot. You can have a look at it in detail below:
