We all go through different phases in our lives. Some are good, some bad and some are the worst. One of the worst periods of life to come across is definitely being unemployed and no matter what your age or qualification or experience is; it is very likely that you will experience it. Definitely lucky are the people who are never unemployed but majority of the qualified people are not that lucky to never face this phase. The reasons might be population explosion or employers’ least bothered behavior of judging people by a page of resume and sometimes we just remain unemployed for some time despite all effort and seem to have lost control of our fate.
Here are some of the few things people have to go through while they are unemployed;
Constantly being asked: What are you doing nowadays?
This the question people are afraid to be asked when they are unemployed because no matter what the answer the can give such as playing sports, networking or freelancing; people do not seem to be satisfied and give you an answer that embarrasses you for being unemployed. This is because people normally have nothing nice to say when you are going through a tough period in your life and give comments often making you realize that it is entirely your fault that you are jobless!
The free but unwanted pieces of advice:
Once people know that you are jobless, most of them are going to give you the most pathetic piece of advised which you might have already tried or heard about a gazillion times. Even the people who themselves have no idea about their own lives, they will give you suggestions as if they are the most successful. Yes, that might happen and the key is just to listen and do your own thing afterwards.
The awkward job offers:
Sometimes, people might ask you to apply for jobs for the time being that are not at all relevant to your interests, goals or qualification e.g. some people just suggest you “Start singing, you have a great voice!” or “become a chef” and these are sometimes hard to argue. The solution is just to keep working hard and try to find the job that YOU want to do. This will keep their mouths shut.
Losing your confidence!
That’s is the hardest part of being jobless because as the time passes by and rejection letters increase, you start doubting yourself and often lose confidence. All the enthusiasm which you had when first applying to jobs often fades away with time. Hence try to be surrounded by people who boost your confidence; not degrade you.
The list of things you want to buy grows bigger:
Being unemployed means no money and as you see people around you employed or moving forward in their careers and also making money, you also have this burning desire to have money to get the things you want to buy. Paying bills, getting an apartment, getting married etc. all get delayed because of having no money L
Final thought:
Just keep working hard, applying to jobs and do not get depressed because the right job is out there and you will get it for sure. It is all a phase of life and it will pass soon.
